Session I                                 10:30 – 12:00             Trends in the Government Sector Workforce Attracting and                                                                                                                                                                      Retaining Employees

Attracting and retaining employees is always a tough task however when the unemployment dips around the 4% or lower rate it becomes extremely challenging.  Come explore ways to help us combat that issue.  Christin has many years of experience helping governments attract and ideas on how to retain employees.

Session II                                1:15 – 2:30                  Trends and They Effect Parks and Recreation    
Larry Allen and Brett Wright Clemson University , Both have served as Chair for the CU PRTM and then moved on to being the Dean of the College. This session will examine trends as identified by Drs. Allen and Wright. And their effects on the parks and Recreation Industry. If you took good notes form 2016 Dr. Allen’s session proved to be spot on with several

Session V                        8:35 – 9:45                           Agency Highlight –  City of Garner, NC

                                                                                      Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services

Dr. Sonya ShawDirector Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.  

With a population of just under 30,000, Garner PRC manages a total of 475 acres of parkland inside town limits, over 271 of which are for active use. The town offers plenty of recreational amenities, including over four miles of paved trails, 12 playgrounds, 12 picnic shelters, 14 athletic fields, six tennis courts and a boathouse on Lake Benson that’s open seasonally. Garner Parks Recreation and Cultural Services was accredited by NRPA in 2015.

Dr. Bob Brookover, Clemson University PRTM

SCRPA and CU completed a salary study at end of 2018.  See the results and have dialogue on comparisons within South Carolina and Nationally.  

 

Session VIII                        11:00 – 12:00                        SC PRT – State Parks update and PRT grants update.  

Paul McCormack - SC State Park Service Director
Paul will discuss updates from the state park service and previewing the future opportunities that he sees as the new state parks service director.   

Justin Hancock - Director for Recreation, Grants and Policy SC PRT

Justin will discuss the trails grant application process, STAR Grant and update on PARD numbers.
